Let me start this post by stating, "I AM NOT HANDY, WHATSOEVER. But, I am cheap!" I refuse to pay for my expensive taste, so I really have to get creative with my decorating. I have been drooling over floating shelf posts on pinterest for years so I finally figured out an easy way to "DIY" them without doing all the work. I Facebook market placed the beautiful unfinished solid wood floating shelves from a local seller in my area. There were several buyers to choose from and all with impressive reviews in addition to super cheap pricing. I got each shelf for 40 bucks and I got to support a local "business" so I was happy. Trust me, if I could find someone in my little town in Michigan, I am certain you will too. From there, I just stained the shelves and painted them to get that rustic farmhouse look. It was super easy AND cheap to do.

Here is what you will need:

Easy 4 step process:

  1. Stain the shelves with the golden oak stain and stain brush - apply two coats - each coat needs to sit overnight.

  2. Apply the white chalk paint lightly and let dry overnight.

  3. If stain finish is not the desired color - apply one more light coat. I did two light coats as you can always add more but can't undo too much.

  4. Use the nails to drill the floating shelf support into the wall and then slide them in.
